Thank you for considering the position of Principal & Chief Executive or Finance Director/VP Finance at West Nottinghamshire College. We hope you find the information contained within this microsite helpful.
Having recently joined the college I have been impressed with the commitment of staff at every level in addressing the challenges ahead. The college’s current position is well publicised, and it is certainly the case that there are opportunities, for the right candidates, to help re-shape the organisation and secure its future.
Staff have been working hard on plans for the future and, with the support now agreed with external stakeholders, the college has a strong platform upon which to move forward. Whilst many challenges remain in the FE sector the college is positioning itself well to maximize opportunities and mitigate known risks.
The Board has undertaken a significant refresh recently and is now well placed to steer the direction of the college and to give the appropriate level of support, challenge and scrutiny. Governors are keen to ensure the appointment of Senior Post Holders with the right cultural fit; people who are not afraid of a challenge and put staff and students at the heart of everything the college does.
We are a very open, friendly and welcoming organisation with a staff body that demonstrates a deep commitment to learners every day. Therefore, we need our new leadership team to be accessible, visible and committed to engaging with staff and students. As well as leading the success of the College, the new Principal and Chief Executive will need to be a collaborative leader who can work easily in new scenarios and develop and implement strategies that draw on our strengths and the opportunities facing us. Our Finance Director/VP Finance will draw on their substantial experience of financial strategy and improvements to support the Principal and Chief Executive with stabilising the College and enabling it to achieve the desired outcomes of the financial recovery plan and beyond.
We have appointed Peridot Partners as our professional advisers on this appointment and we recommend that interested parties have an initial discussion with them by contacting Drew Richardson-Walsh on 07739 364033 email@example.com or Sarah Szulczewski on 07841 017043 firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you think you have the necessary attributes and feel that you are the right person to lead West Nottinghamshire College into the future, we look forward to receiving your application.
With best wishes,
Chair, West Nottinghamshire College
West Nottinghamshire College has provided education and training to over 26,000 full and part-time students across all major industry sectors from pre-GCSE to university levels each year. The provision also includes employer driven and community led courses, making the courses available fully inclusive and relevant to the whole of the local area and beyond.
Its on-campus provision primarily serves the needs of Mansfield, Ashfield and clusters of smaller towns and villages across the borders between Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. It also has a more-recent history model of employer-related and apprenticeship training delivery to some of the largest employers in the country.
The College has a consistent record of exceeding its targets, despite operating within a community of relatively low aspirations and commitment to education. Participation levels and improved achievement rates across all groups of learners is key to economic and social regeneration.
In February 2017, the College retained its ‘good’ rating by Ofsted with inspectors highlighting its role in the area’s cultural and economic regeneration and high standard of vocational training facilities which help students develop the skills for employment.
In October 2016, the College completed a £50m investment to create state-of-the-art facilities for learning. This included the creation of a £6.5m University Centre to improve access to higher education locally and plug the area’s skills gaps and productivity shortages.
The College owns a number of subsidiary companies. The oldest and most successful being bksb which provides online assessment tools and resources to help improve English and maths. bksb provides their innovative software solution to a high proportion of the colleges and educational providers within the sector and in addition to over 2,000 companies world-wide.
Vision Business Support Services Ltd (VBSS) is the latest edition to the College’s group of businesses and was established to provide high-quality support services to all aspects of the organisation. VBSS is a subsidiary company of West Nottinghamshire College and provides an important service and plays a pivotal part in the success of the College and creating an exceptional learner experience.
West Nottinghamshire College also operates a number of commercial businesses that are open to the public and the wider community;
The College’s ethos is to embrace and encourage all those who are driven to better themselves, achieve their goals and reach new heights. Outstanding resources combined with exceptional tutors and student support means that whatever the ambition of a student, the College can help to achieve it.
In the ever-changing landscape of education, the College is facing strategic challenges due to recent changes to funding policy affecting a large number of colleges across the country. The College has a history of successfully overcoming challenges and managing its finances well, though following FE Commissioner and Education Skills Funding Agency intervention and support, organisational change has taken place and will continue for the short-term. With the recent challenges, they are embracing opportunities to review systems and processes and currently working on new strategies and plans to overcome these hurdles and sustain their position in the Sector and the local community.
Since the resignation of the preceding Principal/CEO, the college have engaged the services of an experienced Interim Principal and an Interim Finance Director who, between them, have made great ground in stabilising the college and putting strategies in place to plan for the future rationalisation and development of the organisation. Both will remain in post until permanent post-holders have been appointed.
