Thank you for your interest in the position of Director of Operations at VoiceAbility. This is an exciting time for the successful applicant to join us, as we focus on growing our social impact through developing current and new service solutions to respond to the requirements of people who use and need our services. Working closely with me, the post-holder will be an integral member of our Executive Management Team and play a key role in shaping VoiceAbility's future and the positive impact which we have in people's lives.

VoiceAbility supports disabled people and people who face disadvantage or discrimination to have a voice that counts. We lead work to ensure that people are supported to have control over their lives and we have pioneered ways of enabling people to be heard and have their rights respected. We put the people we work with at the heart of our organisation and have developed excellent services. As a result, we have become one of the largest providers of advocacy and user co-produced services in the UK.

Our strategy is aimed at ensuring that we continue to improve what we do, achieve greater social impact and operate more effectively and efficiently. As we continue to operate in a challenging and competitive environment our focus is on driving performance improvement, sustainability, and diversifying our services, in order to meet our social mission more fully.

To help us to meet these challenges we're now looking for a progressive Director of Operations who will have substantial operational management experience in delivering services, preferably within social care, health, housing support or similar settings. I will need you to bring a focus on quality of delivery and continuous improvement to enable us to drive an ambitious programme of service development. I am also looking for someone who is a motivational and performance oriented leader, with both drive and the ability to provide an effective coaching approach. You will bring proven ability to lead, challenge and enable your team to be their best and to meet quality, commercial and social impact targets.

This is a role which requires someone to take ownership and set a clear direction. Working closely with myself and other members of the EMT you will improve the productivity and consistency of existing services, lead work on measuring and reporting on our operational performance, and, in partnership with the Director of Business Development, develop new service provision. I need a authentic and convincing ambassador for the organisation, able to develop effective partnerships with our commissioners and other external stakeholders and able to use these skills to build strong internal relationships across VoiceAbility.

I want to find a leader who has absolute empathy with what we do and why and is committed to achieving more at the same time as continually improving quality. We're an ambitious organisation, so this post needs to be filled by someone who isn't phased by multiple demands, but instead sees this as an opportunity to identify where the greatest difference can be made and then to lead that change.

£58,000 - £66,000 - London Weighting of £3,299 will be applied in addition to this if the post-holder is London based. Employer's pension contribution 5%.

VoiceAbility's mission is to strengthen voice, support rights and change lives. We enable people who face the greatest disadvantage and discrimination to have a real say in, and genuine control over, their lives. We provide independent support to people with learning disabilities, mental health issues, physical and sensory impairments or autism and to people with dementia, carers and looked after children.

We put the people we work with at the heart of our organisation. Last year we supported 30,000 people, which makes us one of the largest providers of advocacy and user participation services in the UK. We have a turnover of c£8.5m, employing 300 staff across England. Our services range from one to one independent advocacy to innovative peer led mentoring and support.

In view of the increasingly challenging environment for people who use social care and long-term health services, we want to achieve more. Our strategy sets our direction to improve what we do, deliver greater social impact and operate more productively and effectively. Our focus is on driving sustainability and on developing new service directions.

We now need a progressive Director of Operations to ensure that we deliver leading edge, consistently high quality support which provides increasing social impact and to drive an ambitious programme of service development. A central member of our Executive Management Team, you will work in partnership team members, the Chief Executive, and Board, and our committed staff teams to ensure we maintain focus and energy on delivering our strategic objectives.

We are looking for a quality-driven and commercially astute senior operations professional, with a track record in effective service delivery and development and a strong performance management focus, who is able to measure and evaluate the impact of our services. You will be an inspirational leader, able to give focus and direction to your team and expert in developing key relationships with commissioners, partners, people who use our services and members of staff. Alongside your operational expertise you will be absolutely in tune with our values and mission, keen to share in collective responsibility for the overall leadership of the organisation and want to work with the people who we support to strengthen service performance and drive new service development. You are likely to have experience in social care, health, housing support or similar within a charity or social enterprise and to have worked in a public sector commissioned environment.
