Welcome from jonathan senker, chief executive at voiceability

Thank you for your interest in the position of Director of Business Development at VoiceAbility. This is an exciting time for the successful applicant to join us, as we focus on growing our social impact through developing current and new service solutions to respond to the requirements of people who use and need our services. The post-holder will be an integral member of the executive management team and play a key role in shaping VoiceAbility’s future and the positive impact which we have in people’s lives.

VoiceAbility supports disabled people and people who face disadvantage or discrimination to have a voice that counts. We lead work to ensure that people are supported to have control over their lives and we have pioneered ways of enabling people to be heard and have their rights respected. We put the people we work with at the heart of our organisation and have developed excellent services. As a result, we have become one of the largest providers of advocacy and user co-produced services in the UK.

Our strategy is aimed at ensuring that we continue to improve what we do, achieve greater social impact and operate more effectively and efficiently. As we continue to operate in a challenging and competitive environment our focus is on driving sustainability, together with diversifying our services in order to meet our social mission more fully.

To help us to meet these challenges we’re now looking for a progressive, and customer-focused Director of Business Development who will lead successful contract acquisition and retention and who will spearhead our work in diversification and development of our services and funding. I am also looking for someone who is a motivational and performance oriented leader, who can work with their team to enable them to be their best and meet quality, commercial and social impact targets.

This is a role which requires someone to take ownership and set a clear direction, working closely with myself and other members of the EMT to enable us to initiate and scale new developments and at the same time ensuring that we continue to strengthen our current service commitments. I want to find a leader who has absolute empathy with what we do and why and who has a leadership and management style which inspires and enables people to be their best. We’re an ambitious organisation, so this post needs to be filled by someone who isn’t phased by multiple demands, but instead sees this as an opportunity to identify where the greatest difference can be made and then to lead that change.

If you have the skills, experience and enthusiasm to play a major role in shaping our future and increasing our ability to support many more people have a strong voice and real rights, then we would really like to hear from you.

Chief Executive

ABOUT VoiceAbility

We are driven by a desire to ensure that everyone enjoys the same fundamental rights. However rights have no value without the means to implement them. VoiceAbility is that means.

Our aims are to enable disabled people and people who are disadvantaged or socially excluded to have:

  • The right to be heard and respected
  • The right to have the same choice, control, and freedom as any other person
  • The right to be safe from violence or abuse.

Over the past 35 years we have developed leading expertise to deliver these aims. We have used this understanding to deliver advocacy services, to enable people to be involved and contribute, and to free themselves and one another from limiting assumptions and circumstances. Over the lifetime of our next strategy we will further diversify the services that we offer, whilst maintaining people’s voices, rights, and control as the hallmarks of all that we do. We will increase further the positive social impact that VoiceAbility has and the outcomes it supports people to achieve. We will evidence these ever more clearly.

We know that achieving these things will depend on the people who work within and in partnership with VoiceAbility. In return we want VoiceAbility to be an exceptional place to work for people who share our passion and an inspiring organisation to work in partnership with people who believe in our aims.

We provide independent support to people with learning disabilities, mental health issues, physical and sensory impairments or autism and to people with dementia and looked after children.

We put the people we work with at the heart of our organisation. We have a turnover of c£8.5m, employing 300 staff across England. Our services range from one to one independent advocacy to innovative peer led mentoring and support.

In view of the increasingly challenging environment for people who use social care and long-term health services, we want to achieve more. To achieve this our strategy sets our direction to improve what we do, deliver greater social impact and operate more productively and effectively. You will be an inspirational leader, able to give focus and direction to your team and expert in developing key relationships with commissioners, funders and partners. Alongside your business development expertise you will be absolutely in tune with our values and mission and want to work with the people who we support to drive new service developments and directions.
