As the Chair of the Group structure, I am an ardent exponent of the company’s mission and am looking forward to welcoming a new CEO who will equally espouse the strong sense of values that we hold, whilst combining this with exciting and innovative plans for our further growth.
Futures has a long history – over twenty years have passed since we first spun out of Nottinghamshire County Council – and our endurance has been founded on a combination of quality and enterprise. We place impact on individuals’ lives and the strengthening of local economies at the forefront of our activity, which was recognised in our ground-breaking Ofsted rating of Outstanding in 2017.
The company is in a strong financial position, with very healthy levels of reserves, ownership of premises and medium-term contracts secured. We enjoy strong support from our owners; Nottinghamshire County Council and Nottingham City Council; and provide a broad range of support for both areas across the advice, education, employment and skills agendas.
Over the next few years we wish to grow further to establish an even greater impact on more people’s lives and to work with a broader range of partners to achieve this. To achieve this exciting vision, we are looking for a creative and skilled leader who combines strong values aligned to our mission with entrepreneurial flair.

Farewell from John Yarham – current CEO
I leave Futures after six great years with very mixed feelings – excited at my new role but very sad to be leaving such an impactful organisation with so many good colleagues.
The organisation is in a very strong position to grow and develop further, with a strong leadership team, financial base and track record of success in place. The diversification that has been led over recent years offers many significant opportunities in the future and I look forward to watching the future success of an organisation that I will always hold very dear to my heart.

The Futures Group are an East Midlands based organisation, destined to deliver a high-quality portfolio of services to its clients and stakeholders, across an ever-increasing locality as far reaching as the South East and as local as Nottingham City Centre.
The Group have most recently gone through a rebrand and restructure to ensure their delivery is fit for purpose and forward thinking for the benefit to its clients, stakeholders and its people. With this the alignment of client’s services has been altered to ensure an end to end service is offered all those that engage with the organisation, no matter where they start their journey. Acting as an ambassador for the organisation, the Chief Executive Officer will engage and influence stakeholders at all levels, across Local Authorities and Central Government and will represent The Futures Group to a wide network of contacts within the sector. In addition, the Chief Executive Officer will provide focused and inspiring leadership to the Executive and wider team of committed, knowledgeable and passionate staff across the organisation to enable them to achieve their objectives and drive the business forward in sustaining current contracts and relationships and building new ones for the future.
This is an excellent time to join the organisation as we work towards our new strategic direction, developing our services and contracts to extend our reach across the sector, whilst maintaining our position as an ‘outstanding’ source of skills, education, training and career advice across the East Midlands and East of England.
The organisation works closely with both Nottingham City and Nottingham County Councils, as primary stakeholders and these relationships are key to the success of the future strategy and supporting the Councils in delivering their key strategic plans.
As the spearhead of the executive team and a Board member, you will need to be a proven leader with the ability to see things differently in the ever-changing sector of education, training and skills. You will need to have the confidence to communicate, negotiate and influence stakeholders at a high level, as well as deliver innovative ideas, drive change and recognise commercials opportunities across the sector working with your team to bring these to fruition.
