Welcome from Robert Capurro - CEO

Dear Applicant,

I am delighted that you are taking an interest in the role of Finance and Operations Manager at Canning House.

As the UK’s leading forum for informed comment, contacts and debate on Latin American politics, economy and business, as well as for the celebration and promotion of the languages, culture and history of Latin America, Spain and Portugal, we occupy a unique place at the heart of the political, diplomatic, business and cultural relationship between the UK, Latin America and Iberia.

With a pedigree stretching back to 1943, we are a venerable British institution, firmly established as the home of Latin America and Iberia in the UK. We are also unique in terms of the breadth and variety of our remit and the way in which we combine a strong focus on adding value for our business members by helping them achieve their objectives in Latin America, with our wider educational and charitable role.

Canning House unites a very broad and diverse community of interest from across the British political, diplomatic, business, academic and cultural establishment and their Latin American and Iberian counterparts. Presidents, prime ministers, ministers, parliamentarians, ambassadors, business leaders, entrepreneurs, academics, thought leaders, writers, journalists, lobbyists, campaigners and interested individuals from all walks of life and who share a common and active interest in Latin America and Iberia find a home in Canning House.

Working at Canning House is more of a vocation than a job and is ideal for anyone with a genuine passion for and knowledge of Latin America and Iberia; a passion and knowledge that is an essential requisite for a successful and fulfilling role in the Team. All members of the small and highly motivated team speak either Spanish or Portuguese or both and have personal experience of living and or working in relevant countries. The work is challenging and extremely varied, requiring resourcefulness, adaptability and a high degree of professionalism. It is also very rewarding intellectually with a constant exposure to powerful and interesting people with real influence and insight. It is also genuinely good fun much of the time, particularly as we aim for our events and publications to be enjoyable as well as informative.

The role of Finance and Operations Manager is a key one within the organisation and the individual that we appoint will play a critical role in the success and sustainability of Canning House. Joining early in the second year of our current three year business plan, following on from a major re-structuring two years ago, the new FOM will have a major influence on the fulfilment of the three year plan as well as the future shape and function of Canning House for the following strategic period and beyond.

If working for a unique, small, nimble and dynamic organisation with the best brand and reputation in its sector, plus the reach, influence and profile of a much larger enterprise, appeals to you and you also like the idea of working for a rapidly growing institution where you can grow too and make your mark, while at the same time indulging your passion for Latin America and Iberia, then Canning House may be the place for you.

Please see the rest of this website for full details of the position and further information on Canning House. Our website will provide you with additional insight as will our consultants Peridot Partners. I look forward to meeting you.

Kind Regards,

Robert Capurro

CEO, Canning House
